Frozen strawberry jam, which is also called garden strawberry, is a great option both for those who have had no berry season, or for those who have frozen their crop surplus. But many housewives are afraid to cook jam from frozen berries. It seems to them that the taste of such a delicacy will be much worse than jam made from fresh berries. In addition, thawed berries can limp and ferment. In fact, making jam from such berries is a snap. The main thing is to carefully choose the strawberry and carefully follow the recipe.

How to choose frozen berries

  • When shaking the packaging berries should knock on each other. If this does not happen, it means that they have stuck together as a result of defrosting and re-freezing;
  • The color of the strawberry should be either red or slightly burgundy;

Frozen berries should not be subjected to sharp heat treatment in hot water or in a microwave oven. They need to give time to thaw. Depending on the degree of freezing, this can take from several hours to a day. They can be thawed on the shelf in the refrigerator or at normal room temperature.

Classic recipe

This recipe is very similar to the usual method of cooking strawberry delicacy, but it has its own subtleties. For him should be prepared:

  • 2 kilograms of frozen strawberries;
  • kilogram of sugar;
  • a bag of citric acid.

It is necessary to start cooking only after the frozen berries have completely thawed. For this it is best to leave them overnight at room temperature. Thawed berries should be washed, put in an enamel pan and cover with sugar. In this form, the strawberry should stand from 3 to 12 hours. The exposure time depends on how quickly the berries begin to give their juice.

When the juice will cover at least half of the berries, you can start cooking. To do this, put the pan on a small fire, immediately adding citric acid to it. After the beginning of the boil, you need to cook the future strawberry delicacy until the first froth, stirring constantly. Tip! As soon as the foam appeared, the pan was removed from the heat, and the foam was removed with a skimmer. After removing the foam, the strawberry mass should be allowed to cool, then boil it until the first froth again.

The finished product is closed in pre-sterilized jars and removed in a dark place until it cools completely.

Five minutes from frozen strawberries

Making a strawberry jam with this recipe is easy, and a little cooking time will keep the integrity and shape of the berries. For its preparation you will need:

  • a kilo of strawberries;
  • kilogram of sugar;
  • half of one lemon.

Thawed and washed berries are filled with sugar for a period of 4 hours.

Important! Depending on the taste of the berries, the amount of granulated sugar can be adjusted. If the berries are sour, then they need more sugar.

When the berries give the juice, the pan or bowl with them should be brought to a boil over low heat. As soon as they boil, the fire should be strengthened and cook them for 5 minutes. In this case, we must not forget to constantly and gently interfere with berries and remove foam from them.

When the strawberry delicacy is ready, add the juice of half a lemon. After the jam has cooled, it should be poured into banks and stored in the refrigerator.

Jam from frozen strawberries in a slow cooker

You can even boil jam from frozen garden strawberries in a slow cooker. Best of all, the Milk Porridge mode is suitable for its cooking, but if it is not there, you can try it on the Multipovar, Soup or Quenching modes.

Important! Due to the fact that the strawberry delicacy during the cooking process can greatly increase in volume, it will have to be cooked in a slow cooker in small portions.

For this recipe you will need:

  • 300 grams of frozen strawberries;
  • 300 grams of sugar;
  • 40 milliliters of water.

Before you cook the jam, you need to defrost and wash the berries. Then they should be put in the multicooker bowl and covered with sugar. When they begin to give the juice, it is necessary to add water to them and gently mix.

The cooking time of the strawberry delicacy will depend on the mode chosen at the slow cooker:

  • in the “Milk porridge” mode, jam is prepared before the beep.
  • in the "Multipovar" mode, the temperature should be set to 100 degrees and cook for 30 minutes;
  • with the "Soup" mode, the cooking time will be 2-3 hours;
  • when extinguishing mode - 1 hour.

Before closing in pre-sterilized jars, you must remove the foam from the finished jam.

Jam made from frozen berries according to any of the above recipes can be stored for up to 3 months and is not inferior to a delicacy made from fresh strawberries.
